Welcome to The Blooming Maasai.

I Am The Blooming Maasai
My name is Nelly, and I come from a place where many girls are taught to shrink before they bloom. I was born and raised in a Maasai community in Kenya, shaped by a culture rich in tradition, yet often limiting in what it offered to women. Somehow, through education, quiet courage, and relentless hope, I found my way beyond those boundaries. First to university, then across borders, and eventually into the world of energy, development and global ideas.
I hold a Master’s degree in Energy for Society from the Netherlands. During my studies, I discovered a deeper calling to bridge European expertise with African realities, particularly in the areas of energy access, gender, and inclusive development. My research opened my eyes to the systemic gaps that continue to exclude women from energy solutions and decision-making gaps that I now feel responsible to help close.
The Blooming Maasai is not just a blog. It is a space for thoughtful reflections, honest storytelling and conversations that matter. Here, I share insights from the margins not to provoke, but to invite a reimagining of how we view progress, power, and partnership between continents.
I write with the belief that:
- Development must listen before it offers.
- Policy must reflect the lived realities of women.
- Progress is not only about infrastructure, but about dignity.
What I Do
Through The Blooming Maasai, I hope to:
- Share grounded insights on energy transition, gender, and development.
- Offer commentary on policy and cross-continental collaboration, especially between Europe and Africa.
- Uplift stories of resilience and leadership from women in marginalized communities.
- Explore ideas, innovations, and systems that serve both people and planet.
In time, I envision expanding this platform into a consultancy and social enterprise, partnering with organizations that value inclusive growth and community-rooted impact.
Why “Blooming”?
Because I am still unfolding.
This platform is not a finished product it is a living archive of thoughts, lessons, and ideas in motion. I write as I grow, and I invite you to grow with me.
Whether you’re a policymaker, a fellow African woman, a curious reader, or a potential collaborator karibu sana (you’re very welcome here).
Let’s bloom in possibility together.
